World No 1 Iga Swiatek admits she is still "figuring out specific goals" for 2023 but noted that being consistent is definitely something that will be high on her priority list.
Swiatek, 21, is coming off an astonishing 2022 season, which saw her win two Grand Slam titles and set a new record for the most consecutive wins on the WTA Tour in the 21st century - the Pole won 37 consecutive matches before losing to Alize Cornet in the Wimbledon third round.
After Ashleigh Barty retired, Swiatek replaced her at the top spot and the Pole has since been the top-ranked player in the world.
Swiatek is well ahead of the rest of the competition as she has 11,085 points, while world No 2 Ons Jabeur has 5,055 points.
Swiatek established herself as the most dominant player on the WTA Tour and the general belief is that the Pole will enjoy more Grand Slam success in 2023.
But Swiatek is not underestimating anyone as she underlined that in tennis "anything can happen in any tournament."
Swiatek to The National: I'm still figuring out specific goals for 2022"In terms of goals I’m still kind of figuring that out. It’s kind of weird because I’ve never been in such a situation where I had such a great season. So for sure I need to approach next year a little bit differently. But on the other hand my main goal is to continue what I’ve been doing last year and not really come back to all these matches that I played, because that may really kind of make me lazy. But still focus on just the next one and remember that in tennis anything can happen in any tournament. I just want to keep being consistent. But the specific goals I think they’re going to come when I’m going to be closer to the tournament," Swiatek told The National.
Leading up to the 2023 Australian Open, Swiatek plans to play two tournaments - the United Cup and Adelaide International 2.
