On Wednesday the DP World Tour announced the names of the two Captains who will lead the teams of ten players who will compete in the Hero Cup.
The competition, as we have seen, will be held from 13 to 15 January next at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Well, now we know that Team Great Britain & Ireland will be led by Tommy Fleetwood, while Team Continental Europe by our Francesco Molinari.
The two great opponent friends for three days.
They will now work together with Luke Donald, who as Captain of Team Europe will preside over the event, to define the teams, the composition of which will be announced at the beginning of next month.
Francesco Molinari, statements"The Hero Cup is a great idea and will be a good way for European players to improve their team match play experience"
"When I took part in similar events (Francesco played the Seve Trophy in 2009, 2011 and 2013 NDR) I benefited greatly"
"I hope that as captains, Tommy and I will be able to share our team play experience to help other players."
"We look forward to working with Luke on this new idea before a great season for European golf, with the Ryder Cup taking place in my home country."
For his part, Tommy Fleetwood instead stated:
"Fran and I are really well together, so it will certainly be a bit strange at first to be opponents as captains, but I think the Hero Cup is a fantastic opportunity for players to compete in team match play"
"Abu Dhabi has done me well over the years (it has won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship twice, NDR), and I hope it continues to do so in January."
It will be interesting to see these two great friends face each other, even if, inevitably, every time we see them side by side, the triumphal days of Paris in 2018, when the myth of Moliwood was born, cannot fail to come to mind.
