Luke Donald, new captain of the Europe team at the Ryder Cup 2023 in Rome, confirmed that the Dane Thomas Bjorn and the Turin Edoardo Molinari will continue to play the role of vice-captains of the Old Continent towards next year's challenge to the USA. Previously nominated by Henrik Stenson (later relieved by the board of Ryder Cup Europe for having accepted the court of the Arab Super League), they will now be alongside the Englishman.

Luke Donald, statements

"Confirming them was essential, I reserved my first calls for them. To understand Bjorn's importance in terms of Ryder Cup, just open the history books. He has lived and breathed European golf for the last 30 years. Edoardo has instead mapped out a course. impressive in the world of statistics and his knowledge in this area will represent an added value for the group, "explained Donald.

Thomas Bjørn, born February 18, 1971 in Silkeborg, is a Danish golfer.

Five times ranked in the top ten of the European Order of Merit, he had his best results in the Grand Slam tournaments in 2003 during the British Open golf course when he was still in the lead 4 holes from the end, a tournament which is finally won by Ben Curtis. Then, in 2005, he finished second to Phil Mickelson at the USPGA, a place he shares with Steve Elkington.

His regularity on the European circuit allows him to obtain a selection in the European Ryder Cup team twice, in 1997 and 2002.

In 2009, he captained the continental European team which lost 16 ½ to 11 ½ against Great Britain and Ireland in the first edition of the Vivendi Trophy, a competition that took over of the Seve Trophy.

Thomas Bjørn will be named European captain for the 2018 Ryder Cup, which will be played at Le Golf National in Paris, France, from September 28-30, 2018. This is the first time a Dane has been called upon to lead the European Ryder Cup team. Previously, Bjorn1 was vice-captain on four occasions. He learned from Langer, Montgomerie, Olazabal and Clarke.

A logical choice for the selection committee, he will have the difficult task of rebuilding a team capable of competing with the United States.
