Former British No. 1 Jo Durie admits she is not really sure what to expect from Emma Raducanu at the US Open but adds she feels the 19-year-old could make some notable results during the North American hard court swing.

A year ago, Raducanu wrote tennis history when she became the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam.

Raducanu, who will return to the US Open as the defending champion, hasn't won any titles since her stunning triumph at Flushing Meadows.

Over the last 11 months, Raducanu has struggled a lot with her game and injuries.

“She’s back on her favourite surface now, the hard courts,” Durie told Tennis365. “It’s h*t and steamy and Emma loves the way the ball moves and now she can attack. It’s been unfortunate with all the injuries she has had, but I just hope she becomes more robust and can cope a little better physically. I just don’t know what we can expect from her at the US Open as defending champion because it was amazing last year. She can forever say she is a Grand Slam champion, which is what we all aspire to in tennis.”

Durie not ready to write off Raducanu

Raducanu is 19 years old and she is playing her first full season on the WTA Tour.

Since Ashleigh Barty's retirement, Iga Swiatek is the only WTA player who has been playing consistent tennis.

Durie noted Swiatek is the dominant force on the women's game, and when she is not playing, anyone from the top-20 can win it all.

“If you look week on week and even at the Grand Slams, there are different winners. Iga Swiatek is a level about everybody at the moment and the points gap is big between one and two. But the rest of the top 20, anybody week on week can win the tournament and they know that. Why not in a Grand Slam," Durie added.

Raducanu kicked off her summer on hard courts this week in Washington, where she reached the quarterfinal before losing to Liudmila Samsonova.
