Novak Djokovic has signed up to play the Tel Aviv Watergen Open.

After not having an ATP event since 1996, Tel Aviv is returning to the ATP scene and hosting an ATP 250 hard tournament between September 26 - October 02.

The tournament was previously held from 1978 through 1981 and 1983 through 1996.

The Tel Aviv tournament organizers are preparing a big inaugural edition as they have already confirmed two Grand Slam champions for this year's edition.

Previously, 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem was announced as a participant of this year's Tel Aviv edition.

Djokovic adds a tournament to his schedule

On Thursday, Djokovic withdrew from the US Open.

A few days later, Djokovic signed up to compete in Tel Aviv.

Now, Djokovic is expected to compete at the Davis Cup Finals, Laver Cup and Tel Aviv.

When announcing his US Open withdrawal, Djokovic promised to remain in good shape and to keep a positive spirit.

"Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open," Djokovic announced on Thursday. "Thank you #NoleFam for your messages of love and support. Good luck to my fellow players! I’ll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again. See you soon tennis world!"

Djokovic will be the top favorite to win Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, many across the tennis world are not happy about the fact that Djokovic is missing the US Open.

Last week, the USTA said it was "unfortunate" that Djokovic was out of the US Open.

"Novak is a great champion and it is very unfortunate that he will be unable to compete at the 2022 US Open, as he is unable to enter the country due to the federal government's vaccination policy for non-US citizens. We look forward to welcoming Novak back at the 2023 US Open," the USTA said in a statement released.
