Marie Bouzkova had the last word at the Prague Open in her final against Anastasia Potapova. The Czech, seeded eighth in the event played in her country capital, needed 71 minutes to claim a 6-0, 6-3 win over her seventh-seeded opponent.
Coming into the final, Potapova and Bouzkova we're the only two players who hadn't conceded a set in any of the four previous rounds. In the last match, putting Potapova in trouble, Bouzkova gave her no chance to play the kind of game that’d allowed her to come through into the title round in such dominant fashion.
Prague Open: Marie Bouzkova's finally a championPotapova had five double faults in the match to Bouzkova's none and won only 37% of her first-serve points to the latter's 66%. Bouzkova went on to win 50% of her second-serve points and 77% of points on return on Potapova's second serves. The champion could save only one of the three break points she faced but converted seven of the 10 break points she had on Potapova's serve.
After her win, Bouzkova commented, “It's a dream for me to win my first title here at home. I just couldn't be happier... It's a dream come true and I enjoyed playing in front of the home crowd so much.”
At the Prague Open, Anastasia Potapova was seeking to win the second title of her career. Eventually, the home venue proved to be lucky for Marie Bouzkova for whom this was the maiden career title. This was the 24-year-old’s fourth final and the second year. Earlier, she'd reached – and lost – the final in Guadalajara to Sloane Stephens. After this run, Bouzkova will climb 20 places in the WTA rankings when they are updated on Monday, 1st August and will be ranked 46th. Potapova, on the other hand, will reach a new career-high as the world no. 48.
