Coach Piotr Sierzputowski claims he was saying from Day 1 Iga Swiatek had the potential to reach the world No. 1 ranking and adds he is happy for her success.

After the 2021 season ended, Swiatek decided to her five-year partnership with coach Sierzputowski.

Swiatek then added ex-Agnieszka Radwanska coach to her staff, Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Swiatek thought she needed a change of scenery after the 2021 season and it turned out to be correct.

Swiatek has lost only three matches in 2022 and she is currently on a 23-match winning streak.

Also, Swiatek reached the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in her career after winning back-to-back WTA 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Miami.

"I always declared that Iga is able to become number 1. There were a lot of factors which lead to that point. Congratulations for her and the team to use those conditions," Sierzputowski said.

Swiatek plays more aggressive and has become a force on hard

Swiatek has become a much more aggressive player in 2022 but her ex-coach claims that is hard to tell because he thinks Swiatek has always been an aggressive player.

"It’s hard to say (if Iga’s playing more offensive this season). I don’t watch many of her matches but I think she was always offensive player. But every tennis match proves that it’s a game of mistakes, not winners," Sierzputowski added.

After splitting with Swiatek, Sierzputowski started working with American player Shelby Rogers.

Swiatek, seeded at No. 1, has a first round bye in Rome.

Had Rogers won her Rome opener, she would have played Swiatek in the second round.

When asked about a potential Rogers and Swiatek match in Rome, Sierzputowski claimed he would have treated it like every other match.

"This will be the same match for me as every other. I would be more excited if it was on hard court, especially quick one but not on clay," Sierzputowski claimed.
