Andy Roddick weighs in on Roger Federer's agency interest in buying ATP Cincinnati

Former US Open champion Andy Roddick would absolutely love to see Roger Federer's sporting agency TEAM8 buy the rights to the Cincinnati Masters.

In recent time, there has been speculation regarding Team 8's interest in buying the rights for ATP Cincinnati. 

Federer, one of the most accomplished players in tennis history, is a fan favorite wherever he goes and he is a seven-time champion in Cincinnati. 

Roddick thinks Federer would do a great job in Cincinnati and he hopes Cincinnati "falls into the hands" of someone who is associated with the game.

"In the world of tennis, where conflict of interests knows no bounds at all, Roger can do this," Roddick said, per Tennishead. "He’s obviously been a great steward for the game, has created an incredible relationship with the fans in the city of Cincinnati.

"You would like to see it stay in the tennis family, with someone who actually knows and loves our sport. So we will see, from what I hear, there are a number of interested parties but it is nice to see responsible names in the mix.”

Federer set to return this year

Federer has had three knee surgeries since 2020 and he hasn't played really that much over the last years. 

Federer, who underwent a third knee surgery last August, recently confirmed that he plans to return to action later this year.

So far, Federer has signed up for two events. 

In late September, Federer will represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup. 

Also, Federer signed up to play Basel in late October. 

Basel is Federer's first confirmed ATP event but there is a chance the Swiss decides to return even sooner. 

For how long Federer will play remains to be seen but tennis fans are hoping the Swiss plays the full 2023 season. 

Federer wants his return to come on a tennis court and not in a press conference.
