With approximately one month to go in the 2021-22 NCAA Men’s Golf season, the Presidents Cup released today the most recent rankings update for teams eligible to compete in the inaugural Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup, slated for August 29, 2022, at Quail Hollow Club. Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte will serve as the host school for the Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup, which will feature the top four HBCU Division I men’s golf programs, as well as the top HBCU Division II program, following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. Presented by Bridgestone, Citi, Cognizant and Nucor, the Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup will showcase six of the country’s top men’s golf programs at HBCUs, competing in an exhibition match under Presidents Cup format during the event’s media day.

Howard University maintained its spot atop the Division I rankings thanks in part to a fifth-place finish at the Carpetbagger Classic in March, as well as participating in The Goodwin – one of college golf’s premier events, hosted annually by Stanford University. On April 19, senior standout Gregory Odom Jr., accepted a sponsor exemption to compete in the PGA TOUR’s Wells Fargo Championship. Odom has posted top-10 finishes in each of the Bison’s last two events, and won the PGA Works National Championship last May at TPC Sawgrass for his first collegiate title. Like Howard, Livingstone College stayed at the No. 1 spot in the Division II rankings after a win at the CIAA Championship in Dunn, North Carolina, on April 15. The conference championship title was the latest victory for the Blue Bears, who also won the Gulf Shores Invitational, Livingstone Invitational, WSSU Shootout, JCSU Invitational and CIAA Southern Championship during the 2021-22 season. Junior Xavier Proctor, who finished the regular season with a 72.5 scoring average and earned medalist honors at the WSSU Shootout, was named CIAA Player of the Year. In addition to the Charlie Sifford Centennial Cup, the Presidents Cup will host a Leadership Summit during event week on Wednesday, September 21. The Summit will highlight representatives from Bridgestone, Citi, Cognizant and Nucor, as well as other leadership executives from the world of sport, and Presidents from HBCUs, with an in-depth discussion focused on DE&I efforts at the intersection of sport and corporate America, and the integral role HBCU programs can play in the growth and success of those efforts. The 2022 Presidents Cup will be held at Quail Hollow Club the week of September 20-25. For more information about the Presidents Cup, or to purchase tickets, please visit PresidentsCup.com.
