Bryson DeChambeau risking everything for the Masters

It has only been a few weeks since power-hitting golfer Bryson DeChambeau has been playing consecutive PGA Tour events. He will be playing at the 2022 Masters even though there are concerns about his medical fitness.

“It was a huge risk a couple of weeks ago,” DeChambeau said at the press conference after the practice round at the Augusta National about his comeback after the injuries.

“Probably not one that my doctors recommended,” he added. “But I decided to do so because I wanted to give this tournament a run.”

Bryson has been on a long break from tournaments after multiple injuries to his hip and wrist. He had been either missing out or had withdrawn from almost all the PGA tournaments earlier this year.

The only event he finished playing was the Sentry Tournament of Champions where he finished at T25. DeChambeau even withdrew from the Saudi International Championship after his injuries worsened.

DeChambeau had recently admitted that his speed training was the core reason for his injuries. “Some of the things have been a part of that,” he said. “Just abuse and working really, really hard.” His injuries got worse after playing table tennis during the Saudi-event week.

His doctors had advised him not to play. Bryson, however, decided to make an early comeback since he didn’t want to miss the greatest major of the year.

No green jacket yet

Despite competing at the Augusta National, Dechambeau has not earned his green jacket yet.

The closest he has come to winning the championship was in 2016 when he finished at T21.

Bryson had appeared at the 2016 event as an amateur and so didn’t earn the prize money as it is against the USGA rule.

The last time DeChambeau played at the Masters was in 2021, when he finished at T46, scored an overall of 5-over par and earned $33,503.

The doctors had recommended Bryson take more rest to heal his injuries. However, he is set on returning to try and win his first-ever Masters Tournament.
