Boris Becker's mother hopes German tennis legend avoids jail time

Elvira Becker insists her son Boris is a "decent boy overall" as she hopes the former world No. 1 will avoid a jail time. 

On Friday, the court ruled that Becker was found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act relating to his 2017 bankruptcy.

Becker, who has worked as a tennis commentator and expert in recent years, was acquitted of a further 20 charges. 

The German tennis legend was accused of hiding millions of pounds worth of assets.

Becker has been bailed ahead of his sentencing, which is scheduled for April 29.

Becker could face a jail sentence carrying a maximum term of seven years for each count.

“I hope my son doesn’t have to go to prison. He’s a decent boy overall," Elvira Becker said, per Mirror.

Becker on Rafael Nadal's Australian Open run

In January, Becker was covering the Australian Open for Eurosport, providing his analysis and giving an expert insight throughout the tournament. 

"It was a day made for tennis history,” Becker told Eurosport after Nadal's Australian Open victory. 

“We didn’t have Nadal at the top of our list a fortnight ago. He was fit, won the preparation tournament in Melbourne."

After Nadal won a record 21st Grand Slam title, Becker declared the Spaniard as "the most successful player of all time."

“Before that, Nadal was injured for half a year. Now we are wiser and Rafa has broken the record of Federer and Djokovic," Becker added. 

“You make a mistake if you still call Rafa the clay court king. He has won on every surface and every Grand Slam tournament at least twice. 

“He is the most successful player of all time, we can say that loud and clear."

After a strong start to the year, Nadal suffered a stress fracture in one of his ribs. 

Nadal won't be playing at this week's Monte Carlo Masters.
