Former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber shared a nice message to Ashleigh Barty after the Australian announced her retirement from tennis.
Kerber and Barty clashed several times on the biggest stage and the German has nothing but love and respect for her former rival.
Barty, who won her first Wimbledon title last year, defeated Kerber in the semifinal at The Championships.
"You will be missed, @AshBarty! You gave all your heart to our sport and inspired so many along your journey. You’re stepping away from tennis as a true champion and on your own terms, simply following your own path, as you always have. Keep chasing your dreams, I know you will," Kerber wrote on Twitter.
Sabine Lisicki, Ons Jabeur join Kerber in wishing Barty a happy retirement"Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis. I wasn’t sure how to share this news with you so I asked my good friend @caseydellacqua to help me. I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, I’ll always be grateful for the lifelong memories that we created together," Barty wrote on Instagram.
Lisicki, a former world No. 12, congratulated Barty on a great career and wished her all the best in her next journey.
"Congrats on an incredible career & realizing your dreams but more so on being the thoughtful and nice person that you are! Wishing you all the very best for what comes next @ashbarty," Lisicki tweeted.
World No. 10 Jabeur called Barty "a true inspiration" and added she will be greatly missed on the Tour.
"@ashbarty you are a true inspiration. You will be missed on tour. A true legend. I wish you all the best for what’s coming next," Jabeur tweeted.
