Felix Auger-Aliassime reacts to tight Matteo Berrettini loss at Laver Cup

World No. 11 Felix Auger-Aliassime admitted it was disappointing to lose to Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini at the Laver Cup but he was happy with the way he fought against the Italian. 

Auger-Aliassime performed extremely well against world No. 7 Berrettini but ultimately fell just short of surprising the Italian. 

Berrettini, who ended runner-up at Wimbledon, recovered from a set down to beat Auger-Aliassime 6-7 (3) 7-5 10-8.

After failing to convert any of his two break points in the 11th game of the second set -- Auger-Aliassime dropped his serve in the following game and eventually lost the match.

"Of course it's disappointing to lose. At the same time I think I have showed and reflected how much this team wants to win. You know, it's only the start of the weekend, we've got a lot of matches ahead and I'm aire we are going to give it everything to win," Auger-Aliassime said. 

Berrettini gave credit to Auger-Aliassime 

After the match, Berrettini acknowledged that Auger-Aliassime gave him a hard time on the court. 

"I don't know," Berrettini said, when asked how did he overturn the deficit against Auger-Aliassime. Just fighting. I felt the match was really hard. You know, Felix was playing really good, not giving me anything, no mistakes, serving really well. I felt a different energy, to know that I'm playing for my team, not just for myself, for my family. I felt great and they helped me a lot."

Berrettini and Casper Ruud won the first two matches and earned a praise from Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg.

"I'm very impressed. Both Matteo and Casper played really good tennis, played very steady and they won two tight matches. But it's a long way to go, this is the first day, the first two matches but I'm very proud of them. You can't ask for a better start in the Laver Cup," Borg said.
