World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has withdrawn from the Indian Wells Masters.

Barty, who captured her maiden Wimbledon crown this past July, won't be making her third Indian Wells appearance next month.

Barty debuted at the Indian Wells Masters in 2018, when she lost in the second round.

Barty didn't enjoy a deep Indian Wells run the following year either, having lost in the round-of-16.

Following the withdrawal of Barty, a place in the Indian Wells main draw opened for Polona Hercog.

Barty last played at the US Open

Barty, who was a top favorite to win the US Open, suffered a shock third round loss at Flushing Meadows to Shelby Rogers.

"There are certain people on the tour that I think no matter the result you know you're always going to get a genuine handshake, a smile, you're going to get that genuine respect. For me Shelby has always been one of those people," Barty said of Rogers following her US Open defeat,

Barty could miss more events as coach Craig Tyzzer revealed that the Australian might skip the WTA Finals event in Guadalajara due to the challenging and difficult conditions in the Mexican city.

"We only just found out it's in Mexico at 1500 metres (above sea level) and they're using pressure-less balls," Tyzzer told AAP. "Pressure-less balls absolutely fly. It's a ball that if you use it in normal conditions, it doesn't bounce.

"I mean, it's not the greatest advertisement for the best girls in the world to be playing something they've never done before.

"In conditions they've never played, in a country they don't play and at altitude, I just feel it's ridiculous.

"As a spectacle, it's just frightening."

Guadalajara was named as the replacement host for the WTA Finals.

The prestigious season-ending event will return to Shenzhen next year.

"It's a decision we'll have to sit and mull over quite a bit," Tyzzer added.
