Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges is living a dream this week as he is having a chance to compete against some of the world's best players at the Estoril Open.
Borges, who is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 331 in the world, made it past the Estoril qualifying event to earn a place in the tournament's main draw.
But Borges' run didn't end on just making the main draw as on Monday he stunned Jordan Thompson 7-6 (5) 6-3 to earn his first ATP main draw win.
After the match, Borges couldn't hide his happiness and excitement.
"I was used to seeing these players on TV and now I'm playing them. It's crazy, it looks like a dream. It's tough to believe... but I have to believe cause it's here where I wanna be," Borges said, as revealed by Jose Morgado.
Borges was feeling pressure early on
Borges was feeling his nerves early on as he lost his service game in the second game.
Borges managed to break back Thompson in the third game but then once again lost his serve in the fourth game.
Fortunately for Borges, he managed to get a break back for the second time in the seventh game and this time he held on to his serve to force a tie-break.
In the tie-break, Borges realized his third break point to win a tight opener.
Borges had two early break points in the second set but Thompson saved those break points to level the second set at two games apiece.
Borges had another break point in the sixth game but this time made no mistake to take a 4-2 lead.
Borges had his first match point in the eighth game but Thompson saved to reduce the deficit to 5-3.
Borges saved three break points in the ninth game before realizing his third match point to book a straight-set win.
