After the cancellation for Covid in 2020, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans returns to the calendar of the PGA Tour 2021, a pairs tournament that will see several world champions on the field. In Avondale, Arizona (USA), from today to Sunday (April 22-25) 80 teams will compete for a total of 160 players. The duo made up of the Spanish Jon Rahm (third in the world ranking) and the American Ryan Palmer will defend the title won in 2019. The event will guarantee a total prize pool of $ 7,400,000 and the first two days will be played with a "four-ball" formula, while the final days will be played with "foursomes".
Staged for the first time since 1938, the show has been in pairs since 2017. The best 33 teams will enter the final phase and the tied teams in 33rd place. In the race there will also be five of the "best players" in the world. In addition to Rahm, here is also Collin Morikawa, number 4 in the ranking, who will be joined by Matthew Wolff. And again: Xander Schauffele (# 5), backed by Patrick Cantlay (# 10). And then Tyrrell Hatton (# 8), competing with Danny Willett for an all-British duo.
Zurich Classic, protagonists11 Major champions will take part in the TPC Louisiana course. Among them also Justin Rose (who won the competition in 2015) and Henrik Stenson. The British and the Swede, respectively gold and silver medalists at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, form an "Olympic" couple aiming for the big target. Also worth keeping an eye on is the South African duo made up of Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel. While Séamus Power will be absent, because it is positive for Covid. In place of him, paired with David Hearn, there will be Zack Sucher.
Erica Herman, Tiger Woods' girlfriend, was by his side and helped him recover.
Erica Herman and Tiger Woods
Herman apparently dropped everything and rushed to see Tiger Woods after the serious injuries from the accident in February 2021. "Erica's been by his bedside, holding his hand and telling him everything’s going to be OK. He’s a champ and he’s got this,” a source mentioned, per US Magazine.
Meanwhile, good news about Tiger Woods: he is seeing his kids frequently. We are talking about Charlie Axel, 12, and Sam Alexis, 13.
A sources close to the golfer tell "People" in this week's issue that his ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, has been "incredible" in letting the kids spend extra time with their dad.
"He sees the kids a lot," says the insider. "Maybe not every day, but almost every day. A lot of that is because of Elin, who is just amazing. She's been incredible since the crash. She has bent over backwards to make sure that he can see the kids while he recovers from his injuries".
