Wayne Rooney focuses on hard work

In his latest column in the Sunday Times, Wayne Rooney has focused on the topic of hard work in young players’ development in football.

That lead him to focus in on former Manchester United youth player Ravel Morrison.

Ravel Morrison has spent the 2019-20 season at Sheffield United, however he’s failed to break into Chris Wilder’s first team.

Ravel Morrison was ‘miles better’ than Paul Pogba

Stories about Morrison have been around for years.

He’s known for having been an incredible young prospect, however his career was derailed by a series of off-field issues.

Yet, for Rooney, Morrison outshone players like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard in the early days at Man United:

I remember watching Ravel Morrison thinking he had everything required for a player in his position. He was brilliant. He was confident.

He nutmegged Nemanja Vidic three times in the space of a minute in one training game. But he struggled with lifestyle and his environment which was sad for him — because I saw Paul Pogba come through, Jesse Lingard, all these players and Ravel was better than any of them by a country mile.

In another eye-catching assessment, Rooney noted that Gary Neville wasn’t “a great football player”.

However, Neville established himself as a mainstay for Man United because “he worked in every minute of every training session and made the most of everything he had.”

Paul Pogba linked to Inter Milan

It’s difficult to pay too may attention to transfer rumours during the Covid-19 crisis, however reports in Italy on Sunday have linked Pogba with a possible move to Inter Milan.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter’s Steven Zhang has a plan to sign Pogba from Old Trafford.

Inter’s plan includes raising funds by selling Mauro Icardi and/or Ivan Perisic.
