Great Britain's Tara Moore, 27 has called on the ITF to financially support lower level professionals during the coronavirus pandemic as she fears some players will struggle to put food on the table if the season suspension lasts much longer.

The tennis season had been initially suspended until the end of April but as it was becoming obvious there would be no way to resume the season so quickly the ATP and WTA extended the tours suspension through to June 7.

On Wednesday, the ATP and WTA in a joint statement announced the further extension of the tours suspension as now there won't be any tennis events until at least July 13. Moore, ranked at No. 447 in the world, appeared in four ITF events this year before the season got suspended and earned around $2,800.

Former world No. 145 Moore last played at a Futures event in Rancho Sante Fe, where she was forced to retire her qualifying round opener. "It will be tough for many players to survive the next couple of months as they didn't earn much before," Moore said on Twitter in support of Sofia Shapatava's petition.

"It is very weird to listen that professional tennis players struggle with food, but that is reality.

"Half of the people I know work on [the] side, coach or play club matches, and since the world is on shutdown that is impossible to do.

"I will not say that I am in the worst position on the planet, honestly I am healthy, I will have food on the table and my family is doing good, but I know people who feel far worse than me."
