Man City and Pep Guardiola agree to wage cuts

As reported in the Times on Tuesday, Man City and Pep Guardiola have agreed to wage cuts in the face of the Covid-19 crisis.

This update comes a day after Man City announced the sad news that Pep Guardiola’s mother had died after contracting the coronavirus.

Dolors Sala Carrio was 82-years-old.

According to the Times, Pep Guardiola is currently in Barcelona, although it’s unknown if he saw his mum before she passed.

How significant will the Man City pay reductions be?

Specific details about the Man United wage reductions remain unknown at this point.

However, the aim of the decision is to ensure that all non-football playing employees keep their jobs at their full pay.

Man City will not furlough any employees.

It’s also unclear when Man City will formally announce their wage cut decision, although it’s likely to be sooner rather than later. The Times report:

Manchester City executives and Pep Guardiola are ready to take a pay cut when he returns to the club after the death of his mother.

One City executive told The Times last night: “This is our compromise with the club. We know that there will be sacrifices and we are committed to doing this [taking a pay cut].”

David Silva’s testimonial update

Will Man City fans ever see David Silva play for the club again?

Silva, 34, is set to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

Of course, it’s still unknown if the 2019-20 Premier League season will resume.

Yet, in a boost for Man City supporters, the Manchester Evening News have confirmed plans for David Silva’s testimonial:

Manchester City will give David Silva the send-off he deserves, once the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

Silva is a shy, retiring personality who might not fancy that kind of limelight, but City will not allow his departure to go without marking it in some way.
