Roger Federer spoke about what he did after winning the Swiss Indoors title in Basel for the tenth time. The Swiss withdrew from Paris Masters. "I recovered, I trained the way I needed in order not to drop down completely. It's nice, of course, if you had a break, then everything is easier in your everyday life. You are willing to play because you did not compete the previous week. That's what I exaclrt want to feel before the ATP Finals. I do have an nice feeling, but the match against Dominic Thiem will not be like a normal first round like in Basel or in a Grand Slam. I find the surface good and I do not have issues with my body. I am totally motivated and hungry and I hope I can have a good tournament."
Asked how it will feel like to face Novak Djokovic in the groups stage at the ATP Finals, Federer said: "It already happened and it's not a news. It's a groups stage so you may lose and still play. Especially for the new guys, question marks may come up during matches. Can I lose now or it doesn't matter? Hopefully I win every match, play well and give everything. If it's enough, it's enough otherwise I know I lost to a top player. I am happy to be here because every year this is one of the goals for me and my team."
Federer will try to keep his No. 3 rankings position and not be passed by the Russian Daniil Medvedev who had a stellar year so far.
