NWA Worlds Heavyweight champ Nick Aldis was set to partner with his former rival Colt Cabana for a tag match against The Briscoes at Ring of Honor’s Best in the World pay-per-view (PPV), but quadriceps hematoma forced Cabana to pull out of the match.
That set the stage for some MYSTERY PARTNER intrigue, which was enhanced a bit when Aldis and National Wrestling Alliance officials announced that whoever the champ would team with in Baltimore on June 28 had signed an exclusive deal with Billy Corgan & Dave Lagana’s promotion.
Aldis didn’t wait until bell time, either. He came out on the pre-show to reveal the newest addition to the NWA roster, but first, he was interrupted by James Storm. The Cowboy’s been working with Corgan’s fed since the start of the year, and has had issues with both Aldis and Cabana (over the NWA National Heavyweight champ). Because of that history, Storm wanted to be among the first to know who the National Treasure’s partner would be. He found out, and it was a fellow former TNA World champ - Eli Drake.
Walking in like you own the place...@TheEliDrake is now with the @nwa!

See him team with @RealNickAldis at @ringofhonor #ROHBITW now! pic.twitter.com/evc5jrlCns
Drake cut a promo calling himself the hottest free agent in wrestling (Impact released him after he publicly criticized their booking, specifically the decision to book him in an intergender match with Tessa Blanchard) and talking about how every company wanted him. He chose the NWA because he does what he wants and does it his way, that’s why he’s the Defiant One. He put over the ten pounds of gold, and it sounds like he’ll be coming for it since no one can stop him, because he can’t even stop himself.

The match itself ending in a double countout, and set up more issues between both Aldis and Drake with Dem Boys, so there may be a title defense with Mark Briscoe in Nick’s future before Eli, Colt or Storm gets a shot.
Thoughts on this acquisition? Or NWA’s current direction in general?
