John McEnroe praises Dominic Thiem after win over Novak Djokovic

Tennis legend John McEnroe praised Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem for keeping his focus and holding his composure against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic despite a major letdown in the ninth game of the fifth set. 

Djokovic appeared to be set for a huge French Open semifinal comeback after he saved two consecutive match points on Thiem's serve in the ninth game of the fifth set but he fell short in his attempt as the Austrian claimed a 6-2 3-6 7-5 5-7 7-5 win. 

After clinching two consecutive match points, fourth-seeded Thiem's hands got tight as he made several unforced errors and gave away the game to the Serb. 

Fortunately for Thiem, he didn't pay the price for his ninth game letdown as he served out the 11th game to love and then saved two game points in the following game before he realized his third match point to seal the win. 

"He (Thiem) was serving at 5-3 40-15 with the racket in his hand and played four of the worst points that he’ll ever play to try to finish a legend off. Then suddenly somehow he was able to pull it together and win. That tells you something about how tough he is," McEnroe said, per Gaspar Ribeiro Lanca.
